Youth Convention 2008

On January 11-12, 2008 youth from all over the diocese came together for our annual Diocesan Youth Convention at St. James' Cathedral in Fresno, CA. The event welcomed Paul Haroutunian from Youth For Christ (YFC), the Jon Shabaglian Band from Fresno, and comedian Daren Streblow from Minnesota. Laughter and worship filled the community building both Friday and Saturday.

The theme for this year's convention was "True Life: who are you?" Paul Haroutunian gave three powerful messages throughout the weekend about how to live a true life. His messages encouraged, challenged and stretched kids to examine their lives and seek out who God wants them to be.

Worship was led by the Jon Shabaglian band both Friday and Saturday. Kids joined with joyful hearts in the awesome worship. This was the bands first year at Youth Convention, but they didn't hesitate in teaching us new songs to sing unto God.

Comedian Daren Streblow gave us all a laugh on Friday night that left everyone in tears and side aches. His comedy act and message of hope were an exciting addition to this year's convention. His blend of humor and quick wit left everyone in hysterics.

A big thanks goes out to God, Sue Gandenberger, Fr. Carlos & Carol Raines, Gary & Marian Facciani, Elana Orr, Nick Raines, Mark Gandenberger, Emily Gandenberger, Brian Petrotta, Erin Stacy, Kristen Cook, our Bishop John-David Schofield, all the youth leaders from across our diocese and all the others who helped make Youth Convention a success. We hope to see your youth at Camp H2O for July 20-26, 2008 and at next years Youth Convention.
